Unpacking Time

Ugggh so much to do so little time, this past weekend we emptied the huge storage room I rented at KDR containers and storage in Margaretville,  Nice People! great prices. That's a 10x26ft room filled to the max!

storage Room

Now all this stuff is in the house, all over the house!

Moving is stressful, emptying your parents house is stressful, moving it into storage is stressful, moving it into the house is stressful and now I'm going to get stressed out figuring out where the hell it's all going!

Thunder doesn't care as long as he's got a place to crash it's all good!

It wasn't all work, we cruised around a bit checking out some of the scenery,
what a beautiful place, The Catskills are beautiful all year long.
My advice, if you ever make a major move, take some time to
enjoy your new home surroundings, it helps take away some of the stress!

Clean up Time...

Ok so two weeks ago I started cleaning up the kitchen, Holy Freakin Grossness, who the hell lives like that! Oh you just wait to you see the pictures, I steamed and cleaned the living hell out of the place and have been coughing and sick since and here is why...

That was under the stove, thats nothing in comparison with the stove!

So if you've been following, you know this was a bank foreclosure, but we did find out through the grapevine these people actually lived this way long before they were losing the house. I'm sorry they lost their home, but maybe the way you live is an indication of how you manage your life.

Old is one thing, but no one ever cleaned this thing!
Yeah this thing has been removed, Ray dragged that thing away, It may cause nightmares!
So I used Krud Kutter to clean the cabinets and I bought a Shark steam cleaner, gotta say I was impressed with the steamer, I used it for hours and not one problem. and Krud Krutter is freaking awesome! It gets all the gunk off easily, but be careful and read the directions! It can take the finish off things you may not want off! I'm going to be redoing the kitchen eventually so I just want them clean! It says its safe and non toxic but I still wear a mask whenever I use cleaning products.
Also notice no Thunder in the way, I kicked him out, didn't want him inhaling any of the dirt and gunk either!

So this is what it looks like now, hopefully in the late spring or summer we'll be ripping it out, but for now it's clean and sanitized!

This is us at Christmas, Ray is super happy
because I'm sick as dog with no voice!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Hope 2016 is a Great Year!

Trash to Treasure

A few things I had been working before my Mom passed at the end of June, I finally finished them. On both pieces I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, Which I purchased at Suite Pieces in Massapequa.
I found both of these pieces on the curb! Another Man's trash is truly another man's treasure! Of course the dog helped find and paint both!
I sanitized the cushion first! I mixed some cream and a white I already had, spray the cushion to get it slightly damp, then paint away! Took three thin coats and after that dried, I taped off the lines and used Paris gray mixed with another gray I had on hand. Then I used clear wax. It almost feels like a vinyl or leather now. Let's see how it holds up!
For the drum table, I lightly sanded first only because the old finish was peeling. Then I used Annie Sloan's graphite on the base, for the sides I layered, a heavy thick coat of Old Ochre, let it dry, put a light wash of one of the grays with a newspaper, then a coat of crackle medium, which I put on thick and thin and even dabbed it on, what the hell! Another coat of Old Ochre again. After it was dried and crackled I used a mix of a dark wax and clear wax with a crumpled cloth to get it in really good in the cracks!
For the top, I gotta admit something, ya see I did not draw the nautical star, my Honey Ray did! Well he lined it out and I painted it so it was a joint effort but all my idea! Then I used the same techniques as I used on the sides, added the nail heads along the edge, I think it gave it a slight industrial feel to it, it's has an old wold charm to it now. And of course the dog was covered in paint drips! He lays right next to me for all my projects! I do kick him out when sanding! His least favorite part!
Let me know what you think!

Let's Try this Again!

So I had every intention of documenting my home improvement journey after my move (from a friends house on the water, I was house sitting for four years, loving life mind you, to living in a a major fixer upper with my boyfriend but...) Yeah life got in the way, all sorts of happenings, major life changes that took every ounce of energy from us. So the house has not been updated and we have been basically living in a construction zone and it has been tough to say the least. But yet another life change has happened and I am hoping this time I can take you all on a journey of fixing up my new home, upstate New York, in the Catskill Mountains!

Yay! I am so excited, My honey and I have plans to make this our new home full time at some point but for now we are weekenders trying to fix up a bank foreclosed house and make it a home again.
Disgusting!
But it won't be easy, although for the most part the house has had a lot of updates, like the electric, plumbing, roof, siding and windows are relatively new. But the interior was disgusting, apparently they were not clean people and there was cat pee and poop every where! Ugghh the smell WTF! Euuwwwwww! That's cat pee and poop all over the floor and that is just one room!

I had to pay a company to come in and remove it and sanitize all the floors, This picture doesn't show the how much or the smell, BE GRATEFUL! It was burning my throat! Ok so your asking yourself why the hell did I buy it then right? Because you can't even buy a brand new car for what I paid for it! So I took the risk and hoping it pays off.

We shall see! Here's a few more before pictures and I will start posting as we continue to work on the house!
Needing curbside appeal!

Camping at home, No heat, No hot water, NO BED!

My helper taking a break!

Did I mention it also has a little guest house? yeah it's even more disgusting!
Till next post folks! :)

A New Beginning...

So I'm moving out of a big beautiful home on the water into a much smaller major fixer upper on a busy main street and I honestly can say I couldn't be more excited. Okay well I confess I am freaking out a little bit because its a a huge change, but there will be so much to fix and paint and fix and paint, oh yeah and fix and paint and all the while Thunder (affectionately of course! a.k.a Thunder Butt, Stink Butt, Thunder Bussi, Blubber Head, Pork Chop, Zippy and last but not least Fat Ass!and yes he knows them all)
Thunder and Schnurly cat
and his two cat buddies will be along for the ride helping us fix up the House!

This Blog is going to be a visual journey of the
chaos that will now be our lives. Hope you all hang in there for the ride and see what kind of mishaps we get ourselves into and hopefully we learn something along the way and actually turn the house into a cozy home for all of us! Of course I am hoping none of us lose any body parts or our minds!
